PRESENTING:
ADI'S UNDERRATED MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS I

AUNTIE MAME (1958) Dir. Morton DaCosta
  • aka the reason my blog is named as it is
  • classic that deserves more love
  • about a woman named mame who takes in her deceased brother's son as her own and her adventures in life whilst raising him
  • top-notch, snort-worthy humor
  • i quote it daily without fail
  • 10/10 guaranteed you will too
  • mame is the most classy + fiesty lady ever and all i aspire to be
  • features lots of lovely, feels-inducing family scenes
  • the costumes are the most gorgeous things to ever exist
  • probably where i got my love for 1920's-30's tbh

KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD (2017) Dir. Guy Ritchie
  • king arthur retelling that is my everything
  • more fantasy than historical
  • 10/10 would marry the cinematographer for doing such a good job
  • jude law's black chainmail
  • best cinematic soundtrack this year
  • NO ROMANCE BETWEEN LEADS
  • SLOW MOTION THAT DOESN'T LOOK CHEESY
  • QUICK DRY WIT AND A FAST MOVING PLOT
  • lots of accents. i approve
  • i don't know why this isn't more popular??
  • did i mention jude law's black chainmail

GIFTED (2017) Dir. Marc Webb
  • basically just a movie proving how pure chris evans is
  • story about freakishly smart (and freakishly adorable) little girl
  • THERE'S A ONE EYED CAT NAMED FRED
  • he's the shining glory of the whole thing not gonna lie
  • has that cute indie movie feel, with the pro of a surprisingly spectacular script + quick humor
  • after seeing a classmate bullied the girl picks up a textbook and whacks the devil child in the face + shatters his nose. it may be the most glorious movie scene i've witnessed all year.

THE FALL (2006) Dir. Tarsem Singh*
  • MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE OF EVER
  • i could write a whole 10 page essay on this movie
  • cinematography is literally the most beautiful thing on this planet
  • features a 1920's stuntman who gets injured on the job + befriends adorable little girl
  • filmed in 20 different countries !!
  • so like, everything you see is REAL
  • shows lack of understanding of depression in 20th century + how different medicine used to be
  • so much story-telling appreciation
  • there's bandits
  • pretty hella diverse for an early 2000's movie
  • you're going to cry, but it's worth it
  • and if you're not convinced yet
  • lee pace, the one, the only, the best of the best™, is the lead
  • that is all

MEET THE ROBINSONS (2007) Dir. Stephen Anderson
  • it's disney
  • you need to watch this one
  • most underrated movie of all time
  • why doesn't it have more love
  • there's robots, and flying cars, and singing frogs
  • and the whole message of it is to never give up on your dreams and let life take you where it takes you
  • basically, i cry every single time
  • also hi don't mind me dying because i just realized it's been out for a whole decade

and there we go, lovelies! i hope you enjoyed that somewhat, and maybe found something new to watch. i've got a ton of other movies (and tv shows) to share, so you'll definitely see another installment of me rambling about more soon.

and happy fourth of july!! be safe and have fun. <3

LET'S CHAT! What's your favorite underrated movie you think more people should see? Do you prefer movies or tv shows? And most importantly-- what's your favorite Disney movie? (mine shall forever be Lilo + Stitch, but Meet the Robinsons is definitely second) TELL ME ALL THE THINGS.

  1. MEET THE ROBINSONS IS SO UNDERAPPRECIATED and why?? I loved it when I first saw it, but every time I go to watch it my sisters like "wtf that's crap" ?? It's probably why I like big hero 6 too though, cause robots are pretty damn awesome, and that's why bh6 is my favourite Disney movie of all time ( + nerds becoming smarticle particle super badasses)

    1. IT IS AND I AM MAD ABOUT IT DAMMIT.
it's truly so genius? i'm so in love with the idea of the future in the movie, and how choices can lead to a beautiful ending if you just trust yourself and follow your dreams.
aww, gosh, BH6 is the cutest! i love robot stories (hello tears during Wall-E) and while i personally suck at science, i love seeing it as an element in films.

  2. I seriously want to see Gifted! It looks cute and amazing and it looks like what Captain America would do on his days off from SHIELD, let's be real here.😂 Also I don't reeeeally watch a lot of movies. I just read all the time. But I love El Dorado! And Treasure Planet. They're Disney/kid movies but totally underrated. :')

ooh, i've seen el dorado on netflix and wanted to watch it for a while! i feel like "kid" movies are always so underrated, which is a shame because a lot of them are genius and have such fantastic concepts.

  3. I ACTUALLY LOVE KING ARTHUR. That movie is on my priority list for movies now. :'') Retellings are the best. I'm putting Gifted on there, too. Don't you just love child prodigy movies? One of my fabourites is Sixth Sense (though the kid's not a genius, just strangely talented). :)

  4. Definitely adding some of these to my "To-Be Watched" list! I honestly don't know if I have a favorite Disney movie because I love so many of them, but Meet The Robinsons is always great. As for favorite underrated movies, I saw one on TV called Front Of The Class and I've only ever seen it once but it's made such a big impact on me so considering I never hear anybody talk about it, I'd consider that a pretty amazing underrated movie.
