A Southern Girls Life Writing Prompt Contest

I don't know why I enter in contests. They give me anxiety.

Just kidding.

A Southern Girls Life is holding a Writing Prompt Contest and I thought at the very least I'd give it a shot. I've been slacking off on writing. So I picked my prompt and picture, and put a small piece of writing together. Certainly not my best, but I don't often show writing to y'all so it's something. :}

You can see the post with all the information for the contest HERE. I'd love to know if you enter. ^-^

The prompt

And the picture

“I’m going to run away.”

It’s a phrase we’ve all heard. Often, it’s just a joke. Uttered in anger, or annoyance.

Not for me. Those five words were truth, and I meant them when I said it. Nobody believed me until I’d gone, and they realized I wasn’t coming back. They worried at first, I’m sure. But I know they stopped looking for me. Stopped trying soon after.

Overshadowed and ignored by siblings and relatives, I never felt wanted. I came to learn that I wasn’t by some. I tried talking, tried working things out. Asked what I did wrong. They never answered. Just looked at me sadly, like it was my fault I was ignored and unloved. I used to think it was me. That I'd done something wrong, and that I was being punished. I know better now. It wasn't me. It was them.

It’s not easy. Running away; leaving things behind. Whether you run from your fears, run from responsibility, or really run away. You can’t help but wonder if things would’ve been better if you stayed, and faced your problems. Could things have been better if I had stayed?

It’s harder when you leave family. People that raised you, housed you, kept you safe. But could you stay when you knew that those people didn’t love you? Didn't care for you, or want to have anything to do with you?

And that’s why I ran.

I’m better off now.

But don’t be fooled. Running away is no easy feat.

Like I said, not my best, but I like it.

Also, before I forget again, Evie and I are looking for any bloggers who play Trivia Crack. We'd love to do a big tournament with everybody, so if you play, comment your username below if you're interested. Or if you just want to play regular games with either of us. =)

Have a good day everybody!!!

  1. The paragraph that starts with "overshadowed" made me cry. *sniffs* Dang, that writing is strong. You did a fantastic job of making me feel the narrator's emotions.
IKR THOUGH ABOUT THE ANXIETY THING. CONTESTS AND I DO NOT WORK WELL TOGETHER. Mainly because I always want to win every single thing I enter (yes, I'm one of those annoying people), and if I'm not 100% sure I will I get super anxious and worried and freaked out. :P

    - Ellie

    1. Oh gosh, I didn't mean to make you cry Ellie. Thanks for the compliment though. =3
EXACTLY. I hate admitting it too, but I always feel slightly miffed when I don't win things. It's more a personal defeat because I feel like I didn't do well enough. In the long run, it helps my yearning to improve but it's still one of my annoying flaws. :P xD

  2. Nice! Good luck in the contest! :)

Oh, my phone is dead and I've been too lazy to find the charger and power it back up, but I'll give you my username anyway. I'm @throughthewardrobeblog

    ~Lydia~ <3

Okay, my username is...i don't remember so i'm looking it up (haven't played it in a while)...if it will stop crashing...okay it's still crashing, but I believe it's @clairemeep but I won't be able to play anyways I guess. :P
