|| PUSHING DAISIES: WHY YOU NEED THIS SHOW IN YOUR LIFE ||

I don't know if you know this, but I'm kind of the biggest movie/tv junkie ever. I blame my fascination of it entirely on Peter Jackson, for releasing those Hobbit extended editions and revealing all the magic and work that goes into movies behind the scenes. I've been obsessed with all that goes into the media ever since. So of course, I kind of consume a lot when it comes to movies and tv shows. I love books, but one thing I really want to talk about more on here is my favorite cinematic works, and thus I'm trying something new today and blabbing about one of my favorite lesser-known
shows in an effort to try to get you all to spiral into obsession with me.

And that lovely show is Pushing Daisies, the show created by Bryan Fuller that aired in 2007 and makes me want to cry at the injustice of it being cancelled. It's about a pie-maker, Ned, who has the ability to bring the dead back to life, who solves murder mysteries with his friend Emerson Cod, and accidentally brings his childhood sweetheart back to life. It sounds slightly weird, I know, but trust me, it's f a n t a s t i c.

So without further ado--

WHY PUSHING DAISIES IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST

1.) IT'S VISUALLY STUNNING
I seriously can't get over the cinematography and colors used in the show. Everything is so bright and intense, somehow without being garish, and it adds so much to the fun lightheartedness of the show. There's so many fun effects used, and they work so well with the magical realism aspect of the show. They designed stuff like cars that run on the power of dandelions, and while it sounds lowkey ridiculous, it's absolutely amazing in the context of the show.

2.) IT THROWS GENDER STEREOTYPES OUT THE WINDOW
Ned bakes for a living!! Emerson knits as a hobby, and it's not made fun of!! The cast is primarily women, with only two main recurring male leads, and I just !! Ned is the shyest, most introverted thing ever, and there's never any kind of "we-must-fix-this," arc to his character, either, which I want to scream from the rooftops about. So many things that are typically seen as "manly," or "feminine," just simply aren't concerns in the Pushing Daisies world, and I can't get enough of the progressiveness of it all.

3.) THE DIALOGUE IS LIKE, THE BEST THING EVER
It's fast, witty, and oh so marvelous. I snort at least five times during each episode which I never do. I've come to realize that quick-witted banter is one of the first things I look for in media/literature (probably because I have zero patience and would like the plot to move along SOMETIME TODAY PLEASE), and Pushing Daisies has it in such an abundance. Emerson also doles out heaps of sarcasm, which y'all already know that I live for.

4.) THERE'S AMPLE BOOK APPRECIATION
One thing Chuck complains about in the series is missing her books and I just. #Same. She absolutely devours stories, and she has so much love for all her books.

5.) IT'S ADORABLE
Ned + Chuck are the cutest pairing ever and if you disagree you can either leave, or fight me. They're so darn sweet to each other, and while it's painful seeing them have to traverse the whole "no-touching" thing, it leads to some of the cutest and dorky moments ever. They're each so pure and head-over-heels in love with the other and I just can't with their cuteness.

6.) LEE PACE
This is obviously a valid reason. LOOK. I SAT AND WATCHED MARMADUKE FOR TWO HOURS BECAUSE OF THIS BOY. His acting is always so incredible, and he's??? Been in a lot of good stuff?? I just love him a lot okay don't judge. YOU KNOW YOU HAVE THAT ONE ACTOR YOU'D WATCH IN ANYTHING.

  2. I admit, I know this the first time because of Lee Pace during that second hobbit movie where we all got a glimpse of Legolas' father and went crazy over him. I wanted to start it but I'm scared because it's cancelled after 2 seasons and what if I want more and I can't have it??? *cries* Seriously though, there are so many shows that more deserving to continue that nowadays shows... I might start it in this Summer break, I've heard how magical and quirky this show is and I can't wait!

it seriously sucks that it was cancelled so soon, and you definitely get the sense that there was so much more of the story the tell, but i think they wrapped it up in a fairly nice way. it's definitely worth a few tears, i think.
