|| #TheReadingQuest Sign-Up + TBR ||
I attempted to partake in a week-long readathon last month and failed miserably (damn you thick books) but after hearing about the epicness that is #TheReadingQuest, hosted by Aentee @ ReadatMidnight with help from CW @ Read, Think, Ponder, I knew I had to join in and give this readathon my all.
I EVEN HAVE A PLAN AND A SPREADSHEET !!
#TheReadingQuest is a reading adventure based on a video game quest, in which you are challenged to get through some of your TBR by way of fun-filled stages. You gain experience, HP, and level up a character of your choosing. The quest takes place Sunday August 13th, through Sunday September 10th, and the signup form is available until the start date of August 13th.
I chose the mage as my character as it was the easiest path for me to complete with books I currently have on my physical owned tbr. (also the artwork for the mage is particularly cute and may or may not have played a little bit into my decision)
The Mage challenges are in the first down category, and typically revolve around magic/fantasy, which is always a favorite of mine. I've had a ton of book piling up in that genre, so I thought I'd go ahead and choose that path to knock a few off my list.
MY #TheReadingQuest TBR
MAGE CHALLENGES:
The Abyss that Surrounds Us by Emily Skrutskie
This is the first book in a series about this futuristic society that has female pirates (!!) and people who train these gigantic sea beasts to defend ships. I've only ever seen this mentioned by @givemeabrekk/kazzy boy on goodreads, and as soon as she mentioned in her review that it featured a f/f romance, I knew I had to have it.
A BOOK SET IN A DIFFERENT WORLD
Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
The second book comes out this year and frankly, I'm embarrassed I haven't read this before now. If it's the only book out of this whole challenge that I complete, then so be it. I AM GETTING IT DONE.
The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi
A Hades and Persephone retelling that everyone seems to either viciously love or viciously despise. I love anything based off of greek mythology, and the writing is supposed to be super gorgeous, so my fingers are crossed on liking this one!
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
I was originally going to go with The Crown's Game for this prompt but I've always seen it compared to The Night Circus and figured I might as well read the original story first and get to The Crown's Game later on. I feel like everybody but me has read this one?? I think it's high time I delve into this gorgeous book.
A BOOK WITH A ONE WORD TITLE
Legend by Marie Lu
I picked up Legend for some ridiculously cheap price on Amazon a while back (I want to say like $4??) and have had it on my shelves for a while. I'm not a huge dystopian fan but I've heard good stuff about Marie Lu's writing, and Legend looks like it'll be the quick perfect read to get me one step closer to completing my mage challenge.
SIDE QUESTS:
Violent Ends by Shaun David Hutchinson and like, 16 other authors
I bought this through Book Outlet and then totally forgot I had it, so when I saw the 2+ author prompt it took me a while to think of this one. But I absolutely adore Shaun's books, and I think this'll be an insightful read.
If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo
An #OwnVoices book about a Trans girl and her life after transferring to a new school that I'm SUPER excited to finally read.
Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin
It's been on my TBR shelf for so long that I've mostly forgotten what its synopsis even is. Something about motorcycles and killing Hitler?? I'm in.
Want by Cindy Pon
I've heard nothing but good stuff about this!! Everybody has absolutely raved about this one and I'm hoping it sets a new and improved standard/path for dystopian novels. Plus, it's supposed to be super diverse and set in a alternate future in Taiwan. aLSO, the cover colors are so nice?? I can't stop ogling it.
And there we go! My official character and TBR for #TheReadingQuest! I'm so excited for this readathon to start, and with the length that it is, I think I might just be able to get all of these read. ^-^
If you're looking for more information on the challenge, all of the info about points, etc., can be found HERE.
LET'S CHAT! Are you partaking in #TheReadingQuest?? (link me to your sign-up post!) Have you ever participated in a reading challenge before or do you struggle with set TBRs?? Tell me everything!
FRACKEN YES, ADI. I would pin you as a mage ANY day of the week. I love this.
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessed with the art revolving around this. It's so fluffing adorable and perfect and I am dead inside.
I wanted so badly to join this, but then I was like HM NO YOU'LL BE IN YOUR SENIOR YEAR OF NURSING SCHOOL be a RESPONSIBLE PERSON. Now, I'm mad at my past self, trying to be all responsible and crap. What was I thinking??
Also, Wolf by Wolf was great. As someone who owns and rides a motorcycle, I had a fan-flipping-tastic time with that one.
unfortunately, I am irresponsible and haven't read blood for blood. So... if you do read wolf by wolf, you should give me a run down of what happened so I can read Blood for blood ;)
Ope, I also need to read Nevernight and The Night Circus. Night circus has been sitting on my shelf for eons. I know it's good, I KNOW but I gotta do the thing and actually read it. I'll get there someday?? (also my google prof pic changed on its own accord so apologies if you're like who in the crap is this?? it's me, kris @ lemon-notes)
xx
okay but like that's such a nice compliment because?? i would love to be a mage and the fact that i give off magical vibes is just?? so nice to hear?
DeleteISN'T IT CUTE? I think it's so adorable and fitting for the whole thing. definitely swayed me towards taking part in it #whoops
you ride a motorcycle?? KRIS THAT'S AWESOME AND I'M HELLA JEALOUS.
i will definitely give you a run down! it'll probably involve lots of caps and screaming, but i'll try to make it cohesive as much as i can. ;)
ahh, same! i can't even remember how long i've had it but i've always been worried i'll hate it. i so love anything to do with circus settings.
xx a
This sounds like such a fun challenge. I couldn't decide whether or not to sign up, and now it's too late and i'm a little sad xD.
ReplyDeleteI love the books you've chosen. I thought Night Circus was really good, and TSTQ was great too. I hope you like them!!
aww, that sucks that you missed out on it, but i don't think there's anything wrong with following along with it?? the only thing you'll officially miss out on is the chance for prizes.
Deletethank you!! i'm so excited to read both, and i'm happy to hear that you liked them! that gives me hope for liking them, too. ^-^
thanks for stopping by and commenting, lenna! <3
xx a
ALL RIGHT IT'S OFFICIAL EVERYONE BUT ME IS DOING THIS CHALLENGE. I would normally participate, but I have a ton of required school reading coming up, so it's just not feasible at the moment. Best of luck to you, though!!
ReplyDeleteAHHH I'VE WANTED TO READ THE NIGHT CIRCUS FOR SO LONG. I hope you enjoy it!! I usually don't do reading challenges, but the 3-month-long bookish bingo ones hosted by Bekka @ Pretty Deadly Reviews are really fun. I THINK I'LL HAVE FIVE BINGOS BY THE END OF THE MONTH, DUDE.
