|| Underrated Movie Recommendations II ||

Annnnd, I'm back to ramble about more films! Y'all seemed to enjoy the first edition of this, which makes me absolutely ecstatic and excited to talk about more movies. I've been watching a ton of movies this month, so I've got some great new recommendations. <3

PRESENTING:
 ADI'S UNDERRATED MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS II

THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. (2015) Dir. Guy Ritchie
  • SERIOUSLY SO MUCH FUN I CAN'T EVEN TELL YOU
  • features spies that work together to try to stop a nuclear disaster
  • you could literally ship any pairing within the movie and back it up with canon evidence
  • everybody hates each other
  • but like, everybody also loves each other
  • it's a guy ritchie movie so of course the cinematography is freaking gorgeous
  • the guys fight over whether or not clothes will match
  • and the leading lady is a car mechanic
  • so like who needs gender roles in a movie set in the 60's
  • NOT NAPOLEON, ILLYA, AND GABY THAT'S WHO

QUEEN OF KATWE (2016) Dir. Mira Nair
  • Y'ALL.
  • THIS IS THE NEATEST, MOST UNLOVED DISNEY LIVE-ACTION MOVIE EVER
  • a ugandan girl has a pretty poor life and struggles to support her single mother & numerous siblings
  • stumbles upon a chess club taught by local p.e. teacher (who is the purest cinnamon roll in the whole world)
  • she learns the game, becomes freakishly amazing at it, and uses it to her advantage to win competitions
  • the african inspired music is also hella fantastic and i'm so in love with the whole soundtrack
  • seriously so uplifting and inspiring
  • *waves arms* DIRECTED BY AN INDIAN AMERICAN WOMAN !!

OKJA (2017) Dir. Bong Joon Ho
  • i'm one of those people who knows they can't be a full on vegetarian because they enjoy chicken too much
  • but like, i avoid any form of cow/pig products as much as i can
  • and this movie essentially just reinforced my desire to do so
  • WILL rip your heart out and make your cry over an animated superpig
  • one of those things that doesn't necessarily preach the need to become a full-fledged vegan but instead places more emphasis on the need for food production companies to change their ways
  • done amazingly well for a netflix original. seriously shocked me with it's quality
  • jake gyllenhaal saying "film me jennifer !! you can't fake these emotions," in his fake high-pitched voice is iconic to me now and i will use any excuse i can from here on out to use it in any and every situation
  • i want lily collin's red hair

THE CIRCLE (2017) Dir. James Ponsoldt
  • okay so like it's not perfect
  • but hear me out
  • it gives such a good luck at the issue of privacy
  • and it's absolutely terrifying to think about people observing every aspect of your life
  • there's such good commentary on the importance of the government and businesses having privacy regulations
  • the circle organization is so cult-like and mind-numbing, and it's so important & relevant to see the effects of groups like them
  • such good commentary and points overall !!
  • just ignore emma watson briefly slipping back into her british accent with certain words and you're good

DUNKIRK (2017) Dir. Christopher Nolan
  • look i'm not going to lie to you, i was mostly just there for cillian murphy and christopher nolan's directing style ((the cinematography shots !!))
  • BUT THERE'S A REASON IT'S BEEN SO HIGHLY PRAISED BY A LOT OF OTHERS Y'ALL
  • story about british + french troops trapped on this open stretch of beach in enemy territory during world war II and their attempts to get back to england
  • based on true events
  • super tense and engaging
  • not a lot of dialogue which was actually such a nice change of pace from regular movies
  • harry styles can actually act?? who knew
  • cillian murphy was great, just saying. absolutely ripped my heart out with his acting of a shell-shocked soldier
  • done in that classy kind of war film format where people die but there's no blood/horrible gore
  • partially irrelevant to the actual movie but the ticket guy told us that somebody had actually come out of the movie and complained to him that it "wasn't patriotic enough," how he had thought it was about american troops, and was basically just having one big angry rant to the poor ticket man about how horrible it was because it wasn't american. like ?? i suddenly understand how trump got elected

and there we go! part two of some fantastic movies i've watched recently. <3

NOW LET'S DISCUSS. What movies have you seen recently? Favorite movie/tv show you've watched this year? (It's a tie between The Fall and King Arthur for me) And tell me some of your favorite actors! I WANT TO KNOW ALL THE THINGS.

Comments

  1. *SCREAMING* OH MY GOD I WANT TO SEE DUNKIRK AND QUEEN OF KATWE SO BADLY. And The Man From U.N.C.L.E looks super duper good, too!! SO MANY MOVIES AHHH.

I just watched Moana and Beauty and the Beast (2017) while flying to and from vacation, and I think I'm the rare person who ? wasn't that impressed with Moana ? Like it was good, but not amazing. B&TB ON THE OTHER HAND. Luke Evans and Ian McKellen and Emma Watson all in one movie??? COUNT ME THE FUCK IN. And since then, I've been on a huge Disney kick with all the music I've been listening to. You just caught me in the middle of an Aladdin and the King of Thieves binge (cause Aladdin is the best Disney prince, just saying. like, we all know it's true. XD).

The best movie I've seen this year has to be Hidden Figures, though POTC 5 comes REALLY DAMN CLOSE. And as for TV, this year's favorite is proooooobably Ouran High School Host Club? BUT I JUST BOUGHT BLACK BUTLER SEASON 2 SO DON'T EXPECT OURAN TO STAY #1 FOR LONG.

    Fabulous post, as always!

  3. Ooh I kind of want to see Dunkirk! (Says me who watches like...2 movies a year. *cries*) I actually want to try and watch more though because it's helpful for writing to watch people doing ALL THE THINGS. Ahem. Also the spy movie sounds FAB and I love that gif! I watched Moonlight recently which was really slow and kind of unsatisfying at the end but also beautiful. 😭😭 But that's probably not "underrated" since it like won a ton of awards ahah. SEE. I NEED TO WATCH MORE MOVIES I'M SO PATHETIC AT THIS.
